Support Group Activity March 4, 2011 at Batangas

Activity title:

Support Group Activity

March 4, 2011

Objectives:

1. To practice role playing para mapag-buti ang paraan ng pag pe-present at pagtalakay sa isang sitwasyon.

Venue:

Batangas City Hall
Participants:

LHILC Staff Jun Bernandino & Mary Ann Dao

PWDs, Mother and Officials from Batangas

Outcome:

Ang mga nag participate ay interesado at willing na makinig tungkol sa mga Prinsipyo ng Independent Living at mga Services. Nag karoon ng konting role playing tunkol sa peer visit. Kung saan nagkaroon sila ng interes na talakayin ang tungkol sa mga benipisyo(e.g. PWD id/PhilHealth card) ng mga may-kapansanan. Nagkaroon din ng role playing kung paano sila makikipag usap sa kanilang Mayor.

Evaluation:

Nag-pakita sila ng interes na mapalawak pa ang kanilang nalalaman tungkol sa Independent Living at nais nilang magkaroon ng seminar tungkol sa Independent Living dahil para sa kanila magiging kapakipakinabang ang mga matututunan nila dito.

IL Workshop Angeles, Pampanga

Date: September 22-24, 2010

Objective:

1. To promote the IL philosophy in Pampanga, Philippines

Outcome:

The participants participated actively in the workshop. It is an opportunity for them to talk about themselves and their disability. They cooperated and are willing to learn the concept of IL and peer counseling so they can use it as leaders of DPOs.

Evaluation:

The participants are leaders of DPOs from different parts of region 3. Some are even government workers working for disability-related programs and services. We noticed their interest in the workshop as they enrich their knowledge with new ideas different from what they are learning from other workshops. We also noticed that the workshop made their relationship closer as compared to other activities they are doing together. We could say that peer counseling always does wonders in human relationship and very important in building friendships and good working relationship.

Outcome:

7 PWDS including 3 resource persons attended. The newly appointed focal persons of MSWDO for PWD (Rey and Tess) personally presented IL history, philosophy, and movements. While the resource persons observing the presentation. The presentation was successfully conducted.

Evaluation:

We observed the following things:

1. The presenters can still improve on the manner of presentations.

2. The number of participants is not increasing, maybe because they are looking for activities that will address their economic situation.

Outcome:

          The participants welcomed the idea of making policies and programs to support the Independent Living of persons with extensive disabilities. They are looking forward to collaborate with LHILC to formulate this program.

 

Evaluation:

          Representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development are enthusiastic to develop new programs/services to empower persons with disabilities to live independently. They are looking forward for more collaboration to realize the goals of LHILC.

Peer Visit (Rodolfo Taharan)

September 10, 2010

Objective:

1. To introduce life haven independent living center.

2. To know the general condition of the visited person with disability.

3. To know what help/assistance life haven independent living center can extend to the visited person with disability.

4. To encourage the visited person with disability to join the activities of life haven independent living center.

Venue:

(Rodolfo Taharan) # 12 Ilang-ilang St. Karuhatan Valenzuela City

Participants:

Eric Dy & Teody Auxilian

Outcome:

Rodolfo welcomed the staffs from the center. The center introduced independent living and the services of the center. Rodolfo was amazed that persons with extensive disabilities visit him in his house.

Evaluation:

Rodolfo is not very interested in the center's activities. Maybe the reason for his lack of interest is his feelings that he do not need the services that the center is offering. One other reason might be because of his light disability and his life status. He runs his own business and able to support himself and his family.

Outcome:

Federico welcomed the LHILC staffs. He was gladdened to see the staffs. LHILC staffs introduce IL.

Evaluation:

It is difficult to convince Federico to be independent. He likes to stay in his house. He always worry that people will ridicule him if he go out of his house. He also like to talk about religion and will always lead any conversation to his religious beliefs.

Outcome:

1. LHILC staffs successfully introduced the center and its services to Fernando.

2. LHILC staffs learned the general condition of Fernando and his need for a wheelchair.

Evaluation:

Fernando has curiosity when visited by LHILC staffs because of what he encountered before when visited by a fellow disabled person. He was offered assistance but nothing happened. And now, he is expecting that there will be a positive result for the visit.
